QUINTA DO SOURINHO - BASTUÇO, BARCELOS
Built in the early 18th century, this manor house was object of a hard and rigorous restoration work resulting in this fabulous and peculiar property. The main house presents architectural details of great sophistication providing high standard accommodation.
The most impressive stone house was soon visible through the entrance gates and upon entering we found that the quality of the interior quite matched our expectations. A beautiful blend of granite walls and polished wooden ceilings and floors has been incorporated in the recent renovation of this 200 year old Manor House. Coupled with matching soft furnishings, solid antiques and pretty local ceramics the overall effect is quite stunning. A wander to the bedroom wing along the passageway hung with paintings will lead to the five comfortable bedrooms, the pièce de résistance being the master bedroom at the far end with its 17th century 'box-bed' which comes complete with wooden steps (obviously both are intended for shorter guests!).
Lugar do Sourinho - Bastuço (Santo Estêvão)
The dining and sitting rooms are spacious and well-appointed with restored wooden vaulted ceilings, and are adomed with antique plates and pleasant prints, whilst the adjoining study with its book-lined walls is intended as a hidden corner for quiet reading. A modern wood and granite kitchen is well equipped for larger groups and a dresser houses an array of pretty china.
There are two pleasant apartments just across the entrance courtyard, which have the benefit of their own living room with simple kitchenette, and adjoining double bedroom and full bathroom. The apartments are independent and give privacy and comfort to the guests.
Within the grounds there is plenty of space for adults to be independent and children to run around freely on the shaded and open patios, lawns and terraces. The lower private pool garden area is reached by steps below the entrance courtyard and from here there are lovely open views of the vine-clad hillsides and villages encircling the house.
Although the house is in a very rural setting, the town of Braga with all amenities and renowned for its many churches and historical centre, is only 8 kms from the house. There is a restaurant serving regional dishes on the way to the town, and in the other direction the country beaches of the coast near Esposende are just over half an hour away.
Quinta do Sourinho stands in a quiet rustic environment with a lovely peaceful view and it is surrounded by cultivated land with chestnut, walnut and fruit trees, grape vines and granite walls. Completely surrounded by this natural green countryside, it is the ideal place for those who search something unique. Leisure facilities include a swimming pool, bicycles and a games room.
This 18th century granite house was completely rebuilt in 1992, retaining all of its traditional architectural charm and providing accommodation of a high standard. It is set in a quiet country environment with chestnut, walnut and fruit trees and the views are inspirational. The historic city of Braga and the bustling market town of Barcelos are a short drive away.
