QUINTA DA PONTE DO LOURO - LOURO, VILA NOVA DE FAMALICÃO

Located between Famalicão and Barcelos, on the left bank of the Este river, the House of Quinta da Ponte do Louro is a good example of a traditional house of this region in the 18th century, with a large treshing-floor paved with granite that once received the cereal crops, and surrounded by huge trees inside a romantic garden and a beautiful park. Its history is bound up with the French invasions, holding doors and windows covered with an iron plate and hatch to fire a weapon. Still in full activity, this farm welcomes the visitor with an experience of quietness and bucolic peace, offering the opportunity to watch the farm animals and the agriculture works or simply relax by the pool.

The Quinta da Ponte do Louro is situated about 5km from Vila Nova de Famalicão, on the banks of the River Este and integrated into a fully functioning farm where the visitor can enjoy the observation of agricultural work in the different seasons of the year.

This house is considered a good example of the Minho region traditional house of the eighteenth century, obeying the design of the House Sequeiro, with a wide floor slab of granite, which once had the function of welcoming the cereals and which currently welcomes us as a sunny and sheltered place of the aggressions of the wind. It is surrounded by a large "terreiro", indispensable space of these houses, and of a romantic garden decorated to bucho cut in beds and secular camellias.

Its history is linked to the French invasions, being possible to see doors and windows lined with iron plate and equipped with oculus and holes for firing of arms.

The Quinta da Ponte do Louro welcomes the visitor, providing you with the tranquility and the rural atmosphere.
