QUINTA DE PINDELA - CRUZ, VILA NOVA DE FAMALICÃO

Quinta de Pindela is an 80-hectare estate extending over a small valley in the village of Cruz, 5 km from Vila Nova de Famalicão in the district of Braga.

The manor house is composed of a two floor-residential wing, a tower and a chapel built in 1661 in honor of Our Lady of the Conception. At the end of the 19th century, deep renovation work was done and a new wing was added as well as the Romanesque tower. Next to the House, there is a beautiful 19th century garden where an old stone-made aqueduct is still used to carry the spring water to the house. At the end of the garden, stone stairs lead to a park with a spring water fountain and a refreshing lake, where leafy linden trees ensure a pleasant shade on the warmer days. Since 2012, the whole property – the manor house, farm and the woodland – is classified as "Public Interest Heritage".

Visitors are invited to stay at two old caretakers' houses of Quinta de Pindela, Casa de Soutelo and Casa da Bouça, typical country houses from the Minho region. These stone houses have been entirely refurbished in order to offer a comfortable and pleasant stay. Here, guests can experience nature in an environment of great tranquility and privacy!

Casa de Soutelo, formerly home to the Quinta de Pindela's caretakers, is a traditional rural house, built in the 17th century and completely renovated some years ago. This 200m2 cottage has three double bedrooms, with two single beds each, and three bathrooms. The living room is very cozy, with a warming fireplace and cable TV. The dining room is furnished with a dining table. The kitchen is fully equipped with a microwave, dishwasher, toaster, electric oven and a washing machine. The house has a beautiful veranda and a patio offering a stunning view over the property. Here, guests can have their meals in total privacy. The backyard, with a lawn and a private pool, is the right place for relaxing and refreshing!

Casa da Bouça was built over a granite rock. It has been restored with special care to keep its original features, though with all the amenities required by our modern lifestyle. It is a warm and pleasant west-oriented cottage surrounded by woods and kiwifruit orchard. The building has thermo isolation and central heating, providing a comfortable temperature throughout the year. Casa da Bouça includes an independent and cozy 2-bedroom apartment prepared to welcome our guests. The main room has a queen size-bed and the second bedroom has two single beds; both bedrooms have an en-suite bathroom. The warm living room has a fireplace and cable TV. The small kitchen is also well equipped with a microwave, toaster and an electric oven. Guests are invited to enjoy the magnificent gardens with a traditional threshing floor (eira) and a restored granary (espigueiro), as well as the private swimming pool built over the same granite rock that supports the house.

Since 2012, the whole property – the manor house, farm and the woodland – is classified as "Public Interest Heritage".

Three over-150 years old trees are also classified as public interest:

• Sequoia, 40 meters high and 5 meters perimeter

• Pseudotsuga, 30 meters high and 6 meters perimeter

• American Tulip Tree, 36 meters high and 10 meters perimeter

Quinta de Pindela organizes several activities and experiences to provide a pleasant and memorable stay:

• Guided tours around the Quinta;

• Donkey rides;

• Wine tastings held in the traditional cellar;

• Meals served at the Quinta's old kitchen;

• A picnic in our gardens, or a picnic basket to take for a tour;

• Workshops of Portuguese cuisine (minimum 4 persons)

Activities are subject to prior booking and are not included in the price of the stay.

Guests can also buy fresh farm produces: eggs, chicken, fruit (kiwis, plums, lemons) and vegetables.
