Located by the sea on the North coast of the island of S. Miguel, Casa das Calhetas was built on the 18th Century (1723). From the beginning, this manor house was inhabited by entail families. The view towards the North-Northeast faces an impressive scenery over the Atlantic, the North coast of the island and the the Lagoa do Fogo mountain range. The view towards the South-Southwest offers a completely different scenery overlooking the only Azorean claustral confined convent, and the magnificent century old house garden. Decorated with simplicity, Casa das Calhetas perpetuates the flavour of wealthy houses of the Azorean rural environment.
From the airport (Ponta Delgada): Take the avenue (avenida) Infante D. Henrique, near the sea. When you reach the end of the avenue follow the indications to Ribeira Grande. After 6 Km turn left to the village of Pico de Pedra. Near the church of this village turn right to Calhetas. In Calhetas at the crossroad turn left and 100m after turn right and you will find the house near the sea.
