HISTORY
Casa de Canedo is a 17th century manor-house, hub of 124 acres agricultural and forestry estate, charms for the contrasting colours of the house – yellow on the walls and grey of the granite ornaments – and the green of the environment.
Nestled in a peaceful valley of the Basto Region, famous for its natural beauty and for its celebrated “green wines”, the Casa de Canedo is an ideal place to explore the contrasting natural beauty spots and discover the varied cultural and folklore heritage of this region.
The Casa de Canedo opened to tourism in 1996 and its several sitting rooms maintain a familiar touch and offer to guests all the commodities indispensable to well being and tranquillity. The whole modernization project of the house is an attempt to combine, wherever possible, the values of local traditions with the requirements of modern comfort.
The house has six bedrooms and three suites all with a very special ambience, space and light. Though respecting the original characteristics and style all rooms have full equipped bathroom, telephone and heating, and suites have also a private sitting room.
In the dinning-room - the old big rustic kitchen - is served a varied breakfast and lunches and dinners can also be served if previously ordered. The diverse menu consists of traditional Portuguese cuisine.
Guests can walk in the gardens, fields and woods around the house, or go for a swim in the pool or in the Tâmega River. They can also watch the work going on the fields, and especially the cultivation and production of "vinho verde", Portugal's slightly sparkling "green" wine. The vineyards are part of the designated winemaking area of Vinho Verde, and work in the vines reaches its climax at the end of September and beginning of October, when the grape harvest takes place.
